Eligibility |

1) |
The nominated horse (purebred, Half-Arabian or Anglo-Arabian) must be registered with either the Arabian Horse Registry or the Canadian Arabian Horse Registry. |

2) |
At least one of the owner(s) of the horse must be a member (full or associate) in good standing with the Ohio Valley Arabian Horse Association (OVAHA).
EXCEPTION: If a Youth has already entered the Youth Program and wishes to cross enter into the Open Program, and, if their horse is owned by someone in their immediate family, that family member need NOT join OVAHA, as long as the Youth is a member in good standing. |
3) |
The lessee of a leased horse must be a member (full or associate) in good standing and the horse must be shown at all times under the lessee's ownership. |
Nomination Procedure |
1) |
A completed nomination form, along with photocopies of the registration papers of all nominated horses must be sent to the High Point Chairperson. |
2) |
There is no fee for the nomination of the first horse, and a $10.00 nomination fee for each additional horse. A check, made payable to OVAHA, must be included with the nomination form. |
3) |
If the horse is being leased, you must send a copy of the lease or other written verification from the lessor. |
4) |
If the horse is being purchased by a time payment contract, you must send a copy of the purchase agreement or other written verification from the seller. |
Points will accrue from MARCH 1st through NOVEMBER 1st of each year. No points will be counted on any horse until the nomination requirements are met. The postmark will be used as a guide for the time of receipt of the required documents and payments. |

Up to five (5) awards will be awarded in each of the categories listed. The award categories are defined as follows:
Halter: Any Arabian or Half-Arabian class in which only the horse is judged, either in hand or at liberty .Excludes futurities.
Western Performance: Any Arabian or Half-Arabian class judged under Western tack including, but not limited to: Western Pleasure, Western Trail, Stock Horse or Reining classes.
English Performance: Any Arabian or Half-Arabian class judged under English tack including, but not limited to English Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, Country English Pleasure, Hunter Hack, Show Hack, Park, or English Trail.
Other Performance: Any Arabian or Half-Arabian class not covered under the three categories above, in which only the horse is judged; including, but is not limited to: Native Costume, Side Saddle, Formal or Pleasure Driving and Formal/Informal Combination.
Open Performance: Open classes consist of those which are NOT restricted to breed, in which any Arabian and/or Half- Arabian may enter and in which only the horse is judged. These include, but are not limited to: Open Pleasure (Western, English or Hunt), or Open Gymkhana. Also, whenever Arabians and Half-Arabians are combined in the same class, points will be awarded in this division rather that in the breed categories.
Dressage: Any competition open to Arabians and/or Half-Arabians in which the dressage tests compiled by the USEF, Pony club or FEI (Introductory through Grand Prix) are ridden; Suitability classes (In Hand or Under Saddle) will count in the Open Performance division. Musical Freestyle will count under the Dressage division. No points will be awarded for Dressage Equitation classes. All USDF shows will be awarded Class A points, while schooling and non-rated shows will be awarded Class C points.
Endurance - Competitive Trail - Field Trails: Any competition open to Arabians and/or Half-Arabians in which the primary objective of the ride is to complete a designated course of varying distances while maintaining the health and well-being of the horse.
Adult Walk - Trot Equitation: Any class where the rider, not the horse, is judged at a walk and trot, including but not limited to Western or English (hunt or saddle seat) tack. This includes classes that are either Purebred, Half-Arabian, and/or Open (not restricted to breed). Equitation classes that are three-gaited (walk-trot-canter) will not be counted.
The following classes will not be considered for points: Pairs classes, Get of Sire, Produce of Dam, Costume (other than Native Costume), Showmanship and Horsemanship. |
Show Classifications |
OVAHA will follow the US Equestrian Federation (USEF) and/or the Arabian Horse Association (AHA) requirements for classification of shows. HOWEVER, a show need not be USEF and/or AHA approved to count for points.

All placing's in the "Payback" classes will be rated Class C regardless of total prize money paid. Shows which offer Sweepstakes and Championship classes, where the guaranteed payback in the other classes meet the total required for a Class A or Class B rating, will be rated A or B according to the previous descriptions.

Additional Requirements |
1) |
Show information and placing's must be sent to the OVAHA High Point Chairperson on High Point forms within 30 days of the closing of the show. Postmark date, if legible, will be used. If the postmark date is not legible, the date the information is received will be used. ALL HIGH POINT FORMS MUST BE SIGNED BY THE SHOW SECRETARY (or his/her representative) TO BE CONSIDERED VALID (Signature stamps are acceptable). All information and forms must be postmarked or received by NOVEMBER 1st. Any horse for which inaccurate or misleading information on class, number of entries or placing's is reported, will be disqualified from the High Point program for that year. |
2) |
A show bill (original or photocopy) must accompany each High Point form sent. The show bill must include: |

a) |
date(s) of the show; |
|
b) |
the exact location of the show; |
|
c) |
name and telephone number of the Show Secretary; |
|
d) |
a listing of all classes for which placing's are reported. |
3) |
A class will not count for points if a horse has been owned, trained, or boarded by the class judge or a member of his/her immediate family within 90 days of the show. This also applies if the judge has given riding lessons to the rider/handler of the horse. |
4) |
If a horse is sold during the award year, the points will follow the horse, as long as the new owner is a member in good standing of OVAHA. If not, the accumulation of points ceases on the date of the sale. |
5) |
If, at any time, an exhibitor or owner is suspended from showing by USEF or AHA, that person will be unable to accumulate any points for the duration of the suspension. |
6) |
Any questions or situations not covered by these rules will be governed by the OVAHA Board of Directors. |
High Point Program
YOUTH HIGH POINT AWARDS PROGRAM RULES |
Eligibility |
Any youth, who is a member in good standing of OVAHA and who has not reached his/her 19th birthday by JANUARY 1st of the point year, is eligible to compete and accumulate points in the program. |
Nomination Procedure |
The nomination procedure for the Youth High Point Awards Program is the same as for the Open High Point Awards Program with the following exceptions: |
1) |
Each combination of horse and rider must be nominated individually. |
2) |
The nomination fee is $5.00 per horse/rider. Each OVAHA youth member is entitled to one (1) horse/rider nomination free-of-charge in the youth program. However, this nomination is NOT AUTOMATIC with membership. You must follow the instructions set out above. |
3) |
Points will be tabulated separately for each horse/rider combination. |
Competition Divisions & Awards |
Only classes limited to Junior exhibitors (JOTR, JTR, JOTH, JTH, JOTD, JTD, age 18 or under, etc.) will be considered for points in the Youth Program.* The one exception to this rule will be in the case of Performance Championship classes. If a Junior rider qualifies for a Championship class and that class is, by necessity, not limited to Junior riders, the the youth may earn points for placing in the Championship class.
* Please note that if the Youth is competing in any Open, AAOTR, AAOTH, etc. classes and wish to have those points count towards a year end award, they are welcome to nominate their horse into the Open Program, for a fee of $10.00 per horse. See Open Program rules for further information.
Small Fry: exhibitors age 10 or under showing Lead Line or Walk-Trot classes;
Showmanship: exhibitors showing on foot with horse in halter or bridle;
Equitation: lasses where exhibitors are judged on their riding ability, including, but not limited to: Saddle Seat, Hunt Seat, Stock Seat, English or Western Bareback, Walk-Trot Equitation, or IAHA Medal classes;
Performance: English or Western Pleasure, Park, Native Costume, Driving and/or any other performance class that is limited to Junior exhibitors (except costume classes other that Native Costume);
Up to five (5) awards will be presented in each of the categories listed above. Also, an Overall Youth Champion will be awarded.
